Southwestern Naja Necklace

$1,250.00

A vintage Southwestern Naja necklace. This is an old and unusual handmade necklace. Typically, in addition to its Naja pendant, it would have silver squash blossom pendants. But this necklace features ten rectangular pieces of spiny oyster, bezel-set in silver with twisted wire and topped with four silver balls. “Spiny oyster” used as a gem, comes from the shell of a species of oyster. Because of its beautiful range of colors, it was often used in place of coral which has become endangered and is no longer mined. The necklace is made with handmade silver beads that are partially double-stranded and has a handmade hook and eye clasp. The naja is marked " sterling" and has the initials "SW". The length is 21".
